Why do teenagers talk differently in front of their friends compared to their parents?

Many teenagers cuss and use slang in front of their friends but change their tone when their parents are nearby. Sometimes the parents do not mind the cussing and slang but the change still occurs. Is it because they have two different sides? They act differently when talking to friends and family.

I do that because I feel like I have to be more respectful in front of my parents.

Most teenagers are more comfertable arouns their friends then around theyr parents because some get in trouble if they do that around theyr parents so they have to be good when the parents are around

    Well..

I do it because I have to be respectful in-front of my parents. But when I’m around friends, we goof off and act crazy and all. It’s all part of the teen years.

if they talked the same way to their parents then they would never see the sunlight again or would not be able to sit down for some time.

With friends you have more confidence in talking freely, but most teens show respect to their parents, cause they are the ones that will punish them. I change with my dad cause he scares me, lol.

just respect. its not leading double lives or anything its just respect. But I dont really cuss (at least that much) at all with anyone.

and the girl that posted above me, how can you not show your parents the real you but you can show your friends? You parents are your FAMILY. your BLOOD. You should be more loyal to your family than that.

    please help I’m down:
